Iam receiving the news with deep shock and sadness. Frankly I was about to write to him again to find out how he was doing as our last correspondence was in January. My first interaction with Luis was in my office in 1989 soon after his arrival in Nairobi. We kept interacting closely with him for all the time until January this year. He was such a great mentor—always willing to help particularly in difficult and hopeless situations. As we pray for him and the family, I believe a big lesson to learn from Luis is his commitment to helping the poor and his selfless attitude in sharing knowledge and mentoring.
