Job Summary

 

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow for a two year, fixed-term, renewable appointment for its International Service for National Agricultural Research (ISNAR) division. The ISNAR division conducts research, capacity strengthening and communications activities to advance organizational, institutional and technological knowledge and innovation as a contribution to IFPRI’s mission of providing sustainable solutions for ending hunger and poverty. The successful candidate will work with other senior researchers to meet the Division’s research and capacity strengthening objectives, and will engage in activities including research, capacity strengthening, fundraising, scholarly publication, and communications in collaboration with national and regional agricultural research organizations and systems. This position is based at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

 

Essential Duties:

 

Specific tasks include but are not limited to:

bullet

Participating in project design and implementation of research and capacity strengthening activities for the ISNAR Division programs in selected regions and countries;

bullet

Assisting in developing tools of analysis and communication designed to strengthen agricultural knowledge and innovation systems  

bullet

Contributing to the global search for best practices in knowledge and innovation systems and documenting and disseminating these practices;

bullet

Monitoring and evaluating the implementation process of research-based services and conducting impact assessments and documentation of lessons learned

bullet

Producing a high level of research output for publication both within IFPRI and within the wider scientific community on topics of close relevance to knowledge and innovation systems for food and agriculture

bullet

Creating linkages and collaborations with partners and interest groups in support of the ISNAR division’s agenda

 

Required Qualifications:

 

bullet

PhD degree, in one of the following areas: Agricultural economics, economics, social science or related fields;

bullet

Experience in research and capacity strengthening on: designing systems for planning, monitoring, and impact assessment in complex organizations and environments; designing incentive programs to promote and finance research and technology development; institutional analysis in the context of knowledge and innovation systems;

bullet

Excellent analytical skills for qualitative and quantitative research;

bullet

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and statistical software such as STATA, SPSS and others for various types of analysis;

bullet

Excellence in oral and written English language;

bullet

Excellent interpersonal skills;

bullet

Ability to work well in a multicultural environment and with individuals and organizations from the public, private, and civil society sectors;  and

bullet

Ability to travel extensively.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·        Knowledge of oral and written French and/or Spanish highly desirable.

·        Proven experience in written and oral presentations.
